The Loire Valley wine region spans from Muscadet near the coastal city of Nantes to Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé Southeast of Orléans. It is best know for dry, crisp, flinty Sauvignon Blanc although there are some mind boggling expressions of this grape being produced by the likes of Francois Cotat and Didier Dagueneau. The sub-region of Vouvray is home to the worlds finest Chenin Blanc which at the hands of Gaston Huet can age wonderfully for decades. . The red wines of Chinon, Bourgeuil and Saumur are pure terroir driven examples of Cabernet Franc and the juicy fruit filled Pinot Noirs found in Sancerre are not to be ruled out.
